INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALISM

Who is this course aimed at?

This module helps reporters and editors who want to move into the demanding and rewarding area of exposition and revelation.

It will help journalists to set the agendas in their specialist fields, enabling them to break important stories, win headlines, and boost the reputation of their publications for their authority and expertise.

To teach the course, Peter uses examples and techniques from his time  working on the renowned Sunday Times Insight team as well as his numerous major investigative features and books.

Investigative Journalism covers:

  • developing contacts and networks
  • obtaining information from nervous sources
  • building information systematically, scrutinising gaps and contradictions;
  • how to handle shortages of time and resource; and how to deal with  external pressures
  • the value of group journalism – are several heads better than one?
  • the latest on the ever-changing media law on defamation, intrusion, privacy and copyright
